In Shen Zhifei's garage, Zhao Xiaokui found a motorcycle. She did not know why Shen Zhifei had a bike in her garage or why it was painted in a majestic gold and fiery red.
However, there was no doubt in her mind that this was exactly what she needed right now.
Yet, out of all the skills she had gained through evolution, car driving was not one of them.
After all, one must be an adult to take a driving license test at a driving school.
Alas! According to her ID card, she wasn’t even 18 years old when she had transmigrated to the mermaid world.
Motorcycles, on the other hand, were something she was familiar with.
At that time, the street was packed with bicycle-riding elementary school children under the age of twelve. However, the traffic police weren’t too bothered to check the age of the motorcycle riders.
Zhao Xiaokui first encountered a motorcycle when she was sixteen years old. That year also marked the death of her maternal grandmother. And with no one to hold her back, she was like a kite with a broken wire.
At school, she had mixed with the dangerous crowd. It was during that time she was too intoxicated and participated in a road race around the mountain.
After the first round of racing, she got hold of a bike. Zhao Xiaokui kicked the rider, Xiao Huangmao, off the bike, twisted the accelerator to the maximum, and drove like crazy.
She brought the championship home with her. The prizes were a pack of cigarettes and a few large packs of snacks, she remembered.
The night road of the city ‘S’ is not as it was during the day. Even though it was known as the city that never sleeps, the majority of the residents had already retired to their beds.
The champion Zhao Xiaokui reappeared inside her again. She pinched the throttle so hard that the motorcycle screamed its engine out as it vanished at the end of the road.
Spedding...
It’s like Assassin’s creed. It would be a perfect crime if there were no witnesses. As long as the camera couldn't capture her or her bike, there was no need to be concerned about speeding tickets.
[Lazybug: Assassin’s creed is the closest thing I could think of. I wasn’t too sure whether the author’s example was a part of a classic or a new Chinese game.]
The human eye, with hundreds of millions of pixels, may be difficult to deceive. However, what about some electronic eyes with only a few million pixels?
Zhao Xiaokui only needed to divert the trajectory of light with the veil of water vapor, and it would be as if she and the bike had never existed in the first place.
Zhao Xiaokui was never a particularly obedient kid. When she was alive, one of her grandmother's most common gestures was to point at her and helplessly sigh, “Just look at you! Running around all day, you couldn’t even sit down for a moment.”
She was, however, a law-abiding citizen. Following her grandmother's death, she had gone through a rebellious phase. She might have ridden the bike secretly, but never had done anything that crossed the line.
So now that she was attempting to avoid the parking fine, she was more nervous than the prospect of confronting an unknown foe.
As she approached her destination, an uneasy feeling rose in her heart.
Miasma had engulfed the entire building of the auction house. As if there was a sealed chimney above the building and the black smoke like miasma couldn’t find any path to escape. So it gathered around the building.
Even if she could see the enemy, she didn’t dare to be careless. She parked the bike by the side of the road, a little distance away from the building. She dashed towards the parking lot where the miasma was the thickest.
The underground parking lot resembled a crocodile lurking beneath the surface. Its entrance looked like a hungry mouth, spewing dense black fog all over the place.
The thick black miasma looked terrifying, giving off a sense of oppression.
Zhao Xiaokui directed her perception into the black miasma and...
‘I penetrated so easily, huh?’
‘What is going on?’
‘Isn’t just too easy?’
In her mind, a list of concerns appeared. She couldn't shake the feeling that something was wrong with the situation.
‘Is it some kind of trap?’ Zhao Xiaokui used her perception to scan the parking lot once more.
‘Seven people, huh?’ As she checked, she discovered four people who were unconscious on the ground. Another person pushed a young girl on the car, as it was gnawing on her neck.
‘No, it’s not eating. Sucking blood?’
Even from the distance, she could sense the stench of blood.
‘Vampire!’
Even if it was hiding behind the thick wall of miasma, she had no problem in guessing the identity of the enemy. After all, it wasn't rocket science.
As for the seventh person, it was Shen Zhifei. She was hiding inside the car, at a corner of the parking lot. Zhao Xiaokui couldn't tell if the vampire had picked up on Shen Zhifei's presence or not. But, for the time being, she was safe because of the distance between them.
Zhao Xiaokui soon realized that there was nothing wrong with her perception. Still, she didn’t dare to venture in.
In her memories, the vampire wasn't too weak.
This race was weak against the sun, and one of their weak points was their physique and strength. However, their long life span earned the envy of countless races. And this very ability was sufficient to compensate for the majority of their flaws.
Zhao Xiaokui wasn't sure if it was because the vampires were terrestrial species or because humans' perception of them was inferior to that of mermaids, but the girl did not know what was going on.
The girl was providing her blood to the vampire with a red face. It was like she was in the middle of an ecstatic dream after a few extra drinks.
The black fog, on the other hand, contained an enormous amount of water vapor.
Zhao Xiaokui had no trouble wrapping herself up in the water molecules. As she moved through the parking lot, she hid her presence in the black mist.
She couldn't tell how formidable this vampire was. As a result, she had no desire to engage in combat with an unknown foe. She only intended to save Shen Zhifei and leave quietly.
And the young girl… Zhao Xiaokui could only hope that the Vampire knew how to handle a sustainable food source and remembered to keep the roots when cutting the leeks.
‘I can’t save everyone.’ Zhao Xiaokui had one goal in mind: to save Shen Zhifei. Even if the vampire's strength was inferior to hers, she had no intention of risking her life.
Only the people who had previously died understood the value of life.
