Chapter 7.2: Confronting the Vampire 2

The vampire who was feasting on the young girl's blood didn't sense Zhao Xiaokui.

His face was red. The vampire had inserted its straw-like fangs into the young girl's blood vessel and was devouring her blood with greedy eyes.

The shade of red on the girl's face faded as it drank more and more blood. Her skin began to turn pale, and her body began to tremble uncontrollably. Her ecstatic expression quickly morphed into agony.

The toxin on his fangs became ineffective as her life was threatened, and she began to show signs of awakening.

Despite this, the vampire in front of her continued to drink every drop of blood from her.

Zhao Xiaokui, on the other hand, was standing in the corner of the parking lot, staring at the locked car with a silly expression on her face.

'How should I draw Shen Zhifei's attention?'

A knock on the window or a light signal would attract the attention of Shen Zhifei. However, it would also attract the vampire's attention. So calling her name or making a flash was out of the question.

However, without those, she did not know how she could let Shen Zhifei know that she had come to rescue her.

On the other hand, she sensed the young girl's life was dwindling rapidly. The vampire had made it clear that he had no intention of leaving a single drop of blood on her body.

The vampire had no intention of saving the golden egg-laying goose for later. He was planning to taste the best one first.

It would be the turn of the middle-aged men on the ground if the girl died. However, given the vampire's preferences, it's understandable that those beer-bellied middle-aged men would not appeal to him. And Shen Zhifei, who was hiding inside the car, would become his next target.

'Yes, contact mark.' Zhao Xiaokui remembered she had left a contact mark on Shen Zhifei in a desperate moment.

Shen Zhifei felt a change in her heart as soon as Zhao Xiaokui wielded the mark.

Shen Zhifei had a feeling that the black fog was affecting her. It wasn't just affecting her mind; it was also affecting her heart. Her heart rate had dropped dramatically.

However, as soon as Zhao Xiaokui controlled the contract mark, her heart rate returned to normal. It didn't just get back to normal; it got faster.

Nonetheless, the oppressive feeling because of the presence of the black fog was still there.

Shen Zhifei thought that some kind of external force was controlling her heart to beat faster, but she didn’t know-how.

‘What exactly is it?’ Shen Zhifei wondered. It didn’t take her long to notice that the pattern of her heartbeat was evoking the same feelings she had felt earlier in the day.

‘Zhao Xiaokui?’ She inched closer to the car door. As she inched closer to Zhao Xiaokui, her heartbeat became faster.

Despite this, she had no way of knowing whether the person waiting outside the car was Zhao Xiaokui.

Furthermore, she didn’t know what was waiting for her outside the car. She was just dead meat, whether inside or out.

So Shen Zhifei took a deep breath, ‘If I am going to die, it won't be without a fight.’ And she unlocked the car door.

A gap slowly appeared, and Shen Zhifei stretched out her hand to taste the water. With a fearful heart, she waited for a few moments.

However, nothing dangerous attacked her. It was only then she dared to open the door wide.

She didn't want to make any unnecessary noises. Shen Zhifei removed her high heels and came out barefooted.

She couldn't even see her hand because it was too dark. She could only move her hand, like a blind man, to perceive what was going on around her.

She grabbed onto a soft and slender hand.

Shen Zhifei had no idea what had taken over her mind when she stretched her arm out and tightly embraced the person.

When she did, however, it washed away all of her fears. As if she could finally be in peace.

Zhao Xiaokui gently stroked her back until all of her emotions had subsided. She finally let go of her and grabbed her hand, writing the word ‘Walk' on her palm.

Shen Zhifei nodded softly. She squeezed her hand in response, believing Zhao Xiaokui couldn't see her.

Zhao Xiaokui led her back down the path she had taken previously.

A mermaid's ability to see in the dark was exceptional. Zhao Xiaokui, on the other hand, was wary of overusing it.

Even if there was no light, her eyes could see everything around her. However, using the mermaid's ability would cause her eyes to glow.

In this situation, her eyes would be like a pair of light sources. Even if a normal human wouldn’t notice the difference, it was a pair of high-intensity searchlights in the eyes of a vampire who was hypersensitive to any light.

[Lazybug: The author compared her eyes to a pair of bulingbuling (yes, in English). I also have no idea what a pair of bulingbuling lights is.]

Zhao Xiaokui narrowed her eyes, lowered her head, and pulled Shen Zhifei closer.

*Bang.*

The sound of the door closing wasn’t too loud. Others wouldn’t even notice it in a normal situation.

However, in this situation, the sound of a pin dropping to the ground would be louder than the two-yuan shop's loudspeaker.

[Lazybug: Two yuan store: Dollar store/ Don quijote]

Zhao Xiaokui couldn’t hesitate anymore. She pushed Shen Zhifei away while also leaping back.

As soon as she did, a gust of wind with a rusty stench missed her face by a hairbreadth. And she kicked.

“Bang—” This time, the sound was much louder than a simple door slam.

From her memories, Zhao Xiaokui remembered the vampires were powerful yet fragile creatures.

They were vulnerable in comparison to high-level races or prepared fighters. Sunlight, silverware, and hemotoxin were all their obvious weaknesses.

A simple light spell or a silver knife or fork, even a hemotoxic snake bite could be fatal to them.

However, they were extremely powerful creatures. Whether it was their speed or vitality, they outperformed all other creatures of the same rank, making them extremely difficult to kill.

Zhao Xiaokui’s reaction wasn’t too slow, but her soul had only recently returned to her body. They didn’t get the chance to get accustomed to each other. They were like a freshly assembled machine that never had the opportunity to demonstrate their potential.

Her body wasn’t listening to her at all. Therefore, all she could do was defend without getting a single chance to attack. Her only option, to be precise, was to be thrashed.

*Bang* *Crash* *Bang*

Amid the darkness, Shen Zhifei could hear an endless string of crashes and bangs.

Her human eyes couldn’t let her keep up with their movement. And the black miasma practically blinded her. She could, however, occasionally see the scaly claw.

From the violent impacts and the rapid breathing of Zhao Xiaokui, she could only make some assumptions about the current situation. And it made her feel very uneasy.

She was sure that she couldn’t judge Zhao Xiaokui and the unknown creature with her human knowledge. Furthermore, the creature seemed to be stronger than Zhao Xiaokui.

‘Is praying the only way out?’ Shen Zhifei looked at the dark fog, thinking, ‘I can only hope she'll be able to stop the beast.’

The helplessness made her angry, and the anger just made her feel more helpless.

However, she didn’t dare to move an inch, fearing that any extra movement might divert Zhao Xiaokui’s attention.

*Bang*

Zhao Xiaokui steadied herself as she wiped the blood off the edge of her lips. Behind the curtain of black miasma, her eyes glowed in a dark golden hue, as if she was some kind of beast.

A slight curve appeared at the edge of her bloody lips as she stared at the creature. It wasn’t fear, it was like she was looking at something insignificant, “My turn, right?”

“Huh?” The vampire with a pair of ruby-red eyes didn’t understand her question for a second. However, he didn’t have to wait for long.

The air around Zhao Xiaokui changed, so did her fighting style.

A moment ago, she was like a weakling, putting off a futile defense while waiting to get beaten, and now…

The vampire threw his fist, yet she wasn’t there. And the elbow swing… missed.

Yes, she was predicting his every move. He was fast, yet it looked like she was waiting for the attack to reach her, before dodging it as if it was nothing.

It wasn’t a fight, neither she had any intention of beating him. She was just playing with her prey.

The sound of ‘crashes and bangs’ intensified for a moment before everything came to a sudden halt and…

*Bang*

The pin-drop silence returned, signaling the end of the fight.

Zhao Xiaokui grabbed the vampire's neck and snap…

At the same time, two sharp [water sword] penetrated directly from his eye sockets into his brain.

*************

Lazybug: I wasn't expecting to finish the translation today, neither I had any intention of publishing a chapter today. However, the chapter was so good I couldn't help it. So enjoy.
